Paul gives us three final exhortations to live lives in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ – for our joy and God’s glory.
God is a gracious and generous Giver. He does not need our gifts. He gives us the opportunity to share in the work of the gospel by giving financially – for our benefit and His glory.
Philippians 4:10 – 13
Paul gives us an example of how to find true and joyful contentment in all and every circumstance.
Philippians 4:8 – 9
Paul urges believers to use their minds rightly – to follow his example in setting his mind on Christ. Such thinking results in joyful communion with God, whatever the consequences.
Philippians 4:4 – 7
Here we have two commands for a happy life that glorifies God.
We are bombarded by temptations to sin and by false teaching. We are commanded to stand firm, immovable, in Christ – for God’s glory and our joy. Here we have five ways we are to, and are able to, stand firm in the lord.
Philippians 3:17 – 21
God’s Word contrasts two ways of living and urges us to find examples of those who live whole-heartedly for Christ, with their minds fixed on things above. . . such that we might follow their example and thus keep going on the path to glory.
Philippians 3:12 – 16
Paul often used athletic metaphors to explain the struggles of the Christian life. Today we have three instructions for running the race that you might keep going with holy joy.
Delighting in Christ is not always our experience. Paul says that he counts EVERYTHING as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his lord. This passage considers the superlative excellence of Christ and how we might delight more in Him.
